Your Vision Becoming Reality.

Louise Wiles | June 9th, 2010

So you think you’d like to move to live abroad?

If this is so then you are not alone, currently over 200 million people live outside of their own country and a recent Worldwide Gallup Survey found that 16% of the worlds adults would like to live abroad permanently if they had the chance (Source: www.Gallup.com).

This translates to 700 million people worldwide!

Top desired countries are America, Canada, UK, France, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Germany and Australia.

The Gallup survey reflects aspirations rather than intent- I wonder, are you one of the 16% who think you would like to relocate abroad – someday? If so, what are you currently doing to investigate the possibility and see whether your aspirations will ever really become anything more than a distant dream?

What is your vision for your future?

Does your vision really mean that you need to move abroad?

Yes there are lots of benefits to be gained by living abroad, great new experiences and opportunities perhaps a better standard of living, quality of life, even better weather. But there are also negatives and it is helpful when weighing up these pros and cons to be clear about what you hope to achieve by moving abroad and starting to live life as an expatriate .

So, it is worth taking some time now to think about what you want from life in terms of;

  • What you want to be?
  • What you want to have?
  • What you want to do and achieve?

How will moving abroad help you to achieve these things better than if you simply stayed home?

Could you change aspects of your life ‘at home’ and still achieve your vision?

In thinking about whether a move abroad is the right thing for you, think first about what you want from life and then look to identify how relocating abroad will better help you achieve those things versus staying home.
